What is it about Wolves that gets Jonas Gutierrez in the mood? The Newcastle United winger scored against them for the third time in the last four meetings between Newcastle and Wolves today, and it was even more spectacular than the previous two.

Last year at St James’ Park Gutierrez scored a great curling shot, while earlier this season he netted a fine solo effort at Molineux. Both of those goals helped Newcastle to secure three points but disappointingly today the Magpies couldn’t hold on for victory.

After Papiss Cisse scored his second goal for Newcastle in his second game at St James’ Park after six minutes and in doing so becoming fifth player to score in his first two home Premier League matches for Newcastle after Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand, Duncan Ferguson and Daniel Cordone, it was Gutierrez who stole the show.

Danny Simpson hit the ball into the box aiming for Fabricio Coloccini, but Wolves managed to head it away. The ball then fell to Gutierrez a couple of yards outside of the box and the Argentine composed himself before blasting the ball past Wayne Hennessey.

Jonas Gutierrez’s stunning goal put Newcastle 2-0 up after twenty minutes, a lead they kept until half-time. However, in the second half two goals from Wolves squared the contest and means that Newcastle have fallen three points behind Chelsea in the race for 4th.

Here are the highlights from Newcastle v Wolves. Go to 00:50 for the Gutierrez goal but I’m sure you’ll want to watch all the highlights, or at least the first half. Disappointingly the Spiderman mask didn’t make an appearance…

We should have won this and credit must go to Wolves for sticking to their game-plan. We should be doing better though and it just goes to show that Saylor is VITAL to this clubs chances of success. The sooner he comes back or the sooner we have quality cover the better-his absence is really hurting us. /no fault on Pardew nor the team as they did their best and these sort of things happen in football.

Ps. Great goal by Gutierrez and HBA’s near misses hopefully will warrant a start against the mackems.
