To know how well Alan Pardew has done in his first year and a bit as Newcastle United manager, you just have to listen to his recent press conference where he thought it was necessary to rule himself out of the running to replace Fabio Capello as England manager.

He really has been that amazing. Who’d have thought 18 months ago that Pardew would be behind only Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp in the pecking order?

As it happens, this weekend Pardew takes his Newcastle side to White Hart Lane to face Spurs in what is a battle of a two top managers in the country.

Newcastle will do well to get anything from the game bearing in mind Yohan Cabaye and Cheik Tiote’s continued absence, but with Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse up top you just never know.

Pardew will be telling that to his players in training this week, where he’s been doing his best monkey impression.

The image below is taken from Newcastle United’s training session at the Little Benton training ground on Thursday.

He was clearly challenged to do his best monkey impression and has done rather well by holding a couple of footballs.

His jacket even has APE written on it (ok so that may have been doctored, but it’s only one letter out!)

What do you think? Given the colour of his hair maybe Pardew could be a silverback gorilla…
