If there is one player that represents the new stance Newcastle United are taking towards transfers it is Mehdi Abeid. Abeid, signed in the summer from Lens, signed a five-year contract with the Magpies, so he’s at Newcastle for the long-term, and is just 19 years of age. The French-born Algerian U23 international is one of a number of French speaking players at the club and while opportunities have been limited this season, which could see him go loan, he should have a bright future at the club.

In the short-term it looks as though Abeid might be going down the same route as Haris Vuckic and signing a loan deal with a lower league club. This is what Alan Pardew told the Sunday Sun: “I am a great believer in young professionals playing men’s football week in, week out. We are trying to get Abeid out. He needs to play regular football for us.

“It might be difficult for him at Championship level. Most clubs are overloaded with midfield players but we would like to get him a good position in League One if not the Championship.”

With Yohan Cabaye and Cheik Tiote returning for the next match, and Danny Guthrie and James Perch ahead of him in the pecking order, first team opportunities at St James’ Park will be limited until the end of the season. However, just being in and around the squad will be a good experience for the youngster and you never know, if five years’ time he might just be up to the standard of Cabaye. For now, it is a battle between Abeid and Vuckic to be the top central midfielder at the club, which is currently being edged by the latter.

One thing Mehdi Abeid doesn’t lack is confidence, as the Frenchman believes he is ready for first team football right now. After all, he is already performing some first team duties, signing a whole host of balls, something he’ll need to make it at the top level!

That’s a man putting on a brave face if ever I’ve seen it.

  • JP...from The Rock says:

He’ll be a star in the not too distant future. I reserve the same praise for Vuckic as I also rate him highly. It’s odd to not hear anything from Gosling anymore. He’s completely out of the picture and can’t be too impressive in training.

  • fantastic issues altogether, you simply received a new reader. What may you suggest about your put up that you simply made some days ago? Any sure?
