A transfer opportunity Newcastle cannot afford to pass up

Christopher Samba is doing his best to force his way out of Blackburn and with Newcastle United on the lookout for a defender, Alan Pardew’s job should be to try and convince Mike Ashley that Samba is the man for the Toon. With Newcastle having had a bid turned down for Watford defender Adrian Mariappa this week, Pardew will be searching for other targets. The Congolese defender could be the perfect fit for the Magpies and they may not get another opportunity to sign Christopher Samba again.

It is certainly no secret that Samba wants to leave Blackburn in the same way that it’s no secret that Newcastle need another centre back. With Stephen Taylor out for the season, Fabricio Coloccini yet to sign a new contract and there being no cover for Mike Williamson, Pardew cannot afford not to strengthen the centre of his defence in the next week. Once Coloccini does commit to the Magpies, Samba would be the perfect fit for the Argentinian, providing the physical presence to complement Colo’s positional awareness and reading of the game.

Samba really does seem to tick most of the boxes. Although he’s 27, one year older than Newcastle’s 26 and under transfer policy, Samba would fit in well with the squad as he’s a French-born Congo international. He also has plenty of Premier League experience under his belt and at 6ft 4in tall can hold his own in the air and even provide an attacking threat from corners and free-kicks.

For Newcastle it’s not as easy as just slapping in a bid and expecting Samba to come, as understandably Blackburn are reluctant to sell given their position in the Premier League table and teams like Tottenham and QPR are reported to be interested. However, high quality acquisitions are never that easy and if Samba were to arrive at the Toon, the signatures of Papiss Cisse and Samba would represent an excellent January transfer window for Newcastle.

As things stand Christopher Samba will next be lining up for Blackburn Rovers in their Premier League encounter against Newcastle United at Ewood Park on February 1st, but let’s hope he’s wearing a black and white shirt instead!

he can cry all he wants but he wont get his transfer cos its out of everyones hands. Barclays say dont sell cos he could help keep us up. Deal is to let him go in summer if we go down or for 10million plus to pay back bank if we stay up.

  • Archie Brand says:

So why does Samba want out?

Was never a fan of taking rejects from clubs significantly lower down than we are.

  • riley powell says:

why are other clubs fans so oblivious to how good samba really is. he has made the most areal clearances in the premierleague and saved countless goals ever since he started at ewood park. he shits on steven taylor any day of the week… not only is he one of the best areal defenders in the premierleague but is a former striker and a pivotal goal threat. he scores frequent goals for blackburn and anyone who doesnt rate him is obviously a oblivious to what good defending is about and doesnt know anything about football

    • Tom Jones says:

Not sure he’s that much better than Taylor, but I clearly rate him, otherwise I wouldn’t have written this article!

  • royroversfan says:

Samba wants out because he was told by the wan, oops I mean VENKYS that we would be signing some quality players and we’d be pushing for Europe, unfortunately for us rovers fans we now know it was all talk,. VENKYS out,and we can sympathise with the toon fans when you were going through it with Ashley stripping your club.

  • Geordiejumpingjacks says:

Strange to think there might be a worse owner than Ashley…

  • royroversfan says:

Geordiejumpingj honestly mate these VENKYS are an absolute disgrace they really are that bad that’s why we’re protesting against them.
