According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United could welcome Rolando Aarons back to the first-team fold this season, despite many believing the winger would miss the entirety of the campaign.

The 21-year-old’s reasonably short career thus far has been blighted with injury problems on Tyneside and there were reports back in November he would miss another huge chunk of action after rupturing his ACL in training. That was a huge blow to Rafa Benitez, who has seen his option in wide areas limited at times this term.

The Spaniard has previously spoken on the importance the month of April brings to the Magpies’ promotion charge and the report suggests Aarons could be back in time for the business end of the campaign. Over the course of that month, the Toon play seven games up and down the Championship table, so having more hands on deck will be a big plus.

Top scorer Dwight Gayle was recently ruled out of action for up to a month, though a lack of options in wide areas have been a problem at St. James’ Park all season.
