According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez will seek talks with owner Mike Ashley in April as the Spaniard looks to build for life in the Premier League next term.

Despite uncertainty being cast over his position in charge at St. James’ Park as a result of a quiet January transfer window, the report claims the 56-year-old is ready to talk about the notion of staying on should he win promotion.

While he is reportedly likely to have offers from elsewhere at the end of the campaign, it’s thought the former Liverpool and Real Madrid coach believes there is potential to work with on Tyneside. He’s understood to want to convince the Sports Direct mogul that the club can make money AND challenge in the top tier.

Ashley has never been the most popular figure amongst the Toon Army, though has previously shown a willingness to spend, as he did in the summer of 2015 when he handed Steve McClaren around £50m.
