When asked on Twitter for an update on the idea of Andros Townsend returning to Newcastle United, the Chronicle’s chief sports writer Lee Ryder provided an interesting update.

The Magpies have been linked with making a quick-fire move to bring the 25-year-old back to St. James’ Park only six months after he left to join Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace following the Toon’s relegation under Rafa Benitez.

Though he did jump ship rather quickly, the England international was a hugely popular figure at St. James’ Park during his short stint on Tyneside and was a big part of the season Rafa Benitez’s were able to stave off relegation for as long as they did.

Ryder has revealed he understand talks have been held between the two parties over a potential deal and cryptically told the interested fan to ‘Watch this space’ in regards to his potential return.

Having struggled in south London, the former Tottenham Hotspur man has seen his stock drop of late and a move back to the North East may be the best for all parties involved at this stage of his career.
