Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez says he is fully aware of the threat posed from tonight’s opponents Preston North End. They currently sit ninth in the Championship table after already drawing away at second place Brighton this season, and beating third place Huddersfield Town in their last home match.

Simon Grayson’s side will be heading into tonight’s EFL tie with a lot of confidence and Rafa told the club’s official website that it will be a challenge facing them:

“They are doing well, they drew against Brighton, they won their last game and they won against Huddersfield Town. I think that they have a good team, they are happy, enjoying themselves and working very hard, so we know that it will be a tough test.”

Despite Benitez’s cautious words, the Spaniard is prepared to make a number of changes for tonight’s match. With the Magpies facing Preston away from home in the Championship just four days later, Rafa will look to use the full depth of players available to them but with the strength of he squad at the disposal, Newcastle should be confident of winning against any opponent they face.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is among those who is anticipated to start tonight at St James’ Park with a change in goalkeeper also looking likely.
