Newcastle United are interested in signing Celtic centre back Jozo Simunovic, according to the Daily Mail. The newspaper also report Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace are watching the defender.

The 22 year old has not had an easy time in Scotland since his arrival from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015. A serious knee injury has limited the Croatian international to just 22 appearances so far for the Scottish Champions.

The departure of boss Ronny Deila in the summer and the appointment of former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers led to Simunovic being pushed closer to the exit door. Serie A side Torino were on the verge of signing the defender on transfer deadline day back in August but pulled out of a £4million deal at the last minute.

The Italian side blamed the knee injury which Simunovic sustained in January, but Simunovic revealed that Celtic pulled the plug after Torino tried to renegotiate the terms of the transfer.
