Newcastle keeper Rob Elliot has said it is strange to see the club and the fans so positive about the future despite the Magpies being relegated from the Premier League last season.

The 30 year old says that despite finishing fifth in the league back in 2012 when Newcastle achieved Europa League qualification, the atmosphere is now much better at the club than back then. He told the Evening Chronicle:

“Yeah, it’s a strange thing. The club is in a better shape now and the supporters are right behind the players and the manager. It’s all running smoothly now.The club is more positive than when we were fifth and going into the Europa League which is strange. I have never experienced it.”

With the club, the supporters and the managers all singing from the same hymn sheet, the positivity is certainly transmitting to the players and later in his interview for the Chronicle, Elliot goes on to say that the current Newcastle squad had the best team spirit he has experienced with the Magpies during his six years at the club since joining in 2011.

Hopefully the positive atmosphere will continue to lead to results on the pitch. No doubt the 4-3 victory over Norwich City two weeks ago was a demonstration if there ever was one of a strong group working hard to get results.
