Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle has been speaking about the frustration he felt before he finally scored against Norwich City on Wednesday night.

The 25 year old had already missed two gilt-edged opportunities against Norwich City before putting away a Matt Richie cross and the forward told the club’s official website that he felt that up until his first goal it wasn’t going to be a good evening for him:

“After the few that I missed in the first half, I was starting to think that it probably wasn’t my day but luckily Matty (Ritchie) put in a great ball across the front and I managed to get on the end.”

“It’s frustating to miss the chances you should be scoring but at the end of the day it’s a good sign that you’re getting the chances and it’s only a matter of time before they go in. (On Wednesday) they went in for me and I was pleased to help the team.”

Gayle’s seven goals since arriving from Crystal Palace in the summer has gone some way to justifying his £10million transfer fee. Fellow new signing Daryl Murphy has however not been so lucky. The Irishman joined the Magpies for £3million at the end of the summer transfer window but has only featured once under Rafa Benitez in the EFL Cup against Wolves. He has not been in the squad for any league match since arriving and was once again left out for the match against Norwich on Wednesday night.
