According to TBR Football, Newcastle United are one of the many clubs interested in AC Milan loanee Tammy Abraham ahead of the summer transfer window.
Newcastle have a lot to look forward to over the business end of the season as they continue to compete for a Champions League spot in the Premier League and are the only club left in both domestic cup competitions.
The Magpies will head to Wembley Stadium next month for their second cup final under Eddie Howe, playing league leaders Liverpool for the opportunity to win the Carabao Cup – which would be their first major trophy in over half a century.
Before the trip to the capital they will also attempt to progress in the FA Cup when they host Brighton and Hove Albion at St James’ Park in the fifth round next weekend, as well as continuing their fight for a European qualifying spot in the league.
It is a very busy time for the North East giants, though there was no attempts to bolster the squad depth in the January transfer window and it remains to be seen whether it was the right decision to wait until the summer transfer window.
Contract renewals have been the talk of the toon this week with Emile Krafth and Martin Dubravka extending their stay on Tyneside, however, out-of-contract Callum Wilson is yet to have his future at the club decided.
Now it is being reported that Newcastle are one of the many clubs interested in signing AC Milan loanee Tammy Abraham, which could hint that Wilson’s future is not promised.
TBR Football have claimed that the Magpies will have competition from Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, West Ham United, Fulham and Everton to sign the Roma-owned striker in the summer.
Should Newcastle sign Tammy Abraham?
There is no doubt that Newcastle will need to make a huge decision in the coming weeks about whether to extend with Wilson, as they will have to find his replacement in the summer if they don’t.
While William Osula is a great young player with potential, the Tynesiders really need a striker that can be a strong presence in any absence of Alexander Isak offering both experience and availability in the centre-forward role.
It hasn’t been an easy ride for Abraham over his career so far, but he has always been a consistent goal-scorer averaging a goal scored every 160 minutes over 418 career appearances.
This season. the 27-year-old – once hailed “special” by Arsenal star Bukayo Saka – has struggled for game time with only nine starts in the Serie A with Milan, and a move Newcastle could be a tempting prospect for the striker.
Indeed, he would likely come off the bench for Newcastle as opposed to being a regular starter, but his experience in both European competition and Premier League could be invaluable to the squad when it comes to rotating Isak or bringing a different perspective off the bench.
With that being said, it will be one to watch for Newcastle supporters ahead of the summer as Abraham could be a worthy successor for Wilson based on availability and experience, for the right price.
