According to AAP news, Australian club MacArthur FC are interested in taking Newcastle United forward Garang Kuol on loan for the rest of the season.

Newcastle United are expected to have a quiet climax to their January transfer business for incomings today, but sporting director Paul Mitchell is still busy with completing outgoings.

Lloyd Kelly – who only joined on a free transfer last summer – is expected to complete his half-season loan move to Juventus, with Newcastle set to bank £20m from the deal in the summer when the Italian clubs’ obligation to buy triggers.

Miguel Almiron has also left Tyneside after almost six years of service to the club in the forward line, the Paraguayan has re-joined former club Atlanta United in the MLS and Newcastle have generated a reported £8m from that deal.

Although it would have been ideal for Newcastle to replace Kelly and Almiron during the current transfer window, these outgoings will help the club build a healthy transfer budget to make ambitious moves in the summer when the market reopens.

It is now being reported that Mitchell is not finished in his pursuit to offload players who have become surplus to requirements at St James’ Park, with rarely-seen Garang Kuol linked today with a potential loan move back to his native Australia.

AAP news claimed this morning that MacArthur FC are interested in securing the services of Kuol for the remainder of the season and have already held preliminary talks with Newcastle to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

Should Newcastle loan out Garang Kuol?

It is clear that the club are working tirelessly to use this transfer window as an opportunity to offload players, as opposed to finding the players needed to take the squad to the next level.

Newcastle are currently in a great position to have one of their best seasons in decades, with the opportunity to progress to their second Carabao Cup final under Eddie Howe this week and are strong competitors for qualifying for European football ahead of next season.

Garang Kuol has had a difficult time at Newcastle and has failed to impress Howe since his arrival at the club back in the summer of 2022, failing to make a single appearance in the senior side so far.

The 20-year-old Australian is currently in the U21s set up, making three appearances and scoring one goal, but a move away to gain experience could be ideal for both the player and the club moving forward.
