According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle United are interested in signing Southampton wonderkid Tyler Dibling in January, a player who could be the perfect replacement for Miguel Almiron.

Newcastle are heading into 2025 in imperious form in the Premier League after picking up four consecutive wins against Leicester, Ipswich, Aston Villa and most recently, Manchester United.

The Magpies have significantly turned the trajectory of their season around as they are now just three points off a Champions League spot inside the top four and will face Arsenal in the two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final, with a chance of heading to Wembley for the final in February.

Eddie Howe will feel a huge weight off his shoulders after struggling to find consistency in his performances over the first three months of the season and he will be hopeful that December’s form can set the tone for the new year.

The new year presents new opportunities for Newcastle not just on the pitch but in the transfer market too, as the window has opened for business and Paul Mitchell will have all eyes on him over the next few weeks to find the right profiles of players that can improve the club’s chances of success in the second half of the season.

The North East outfit have been linked to moves for a right winger and centre-back over the campaign so far, as adding in some much-needed depth to each position would be massively advantageous ahead of the business end to reach ambitions.

It has been reported this week that Newcastle are interested in signing Southampton star Tyler Dibling, but will have strong competition for his signature as Liverpool also hold the youngster in high regard.

The Daily Mail claims that with Miguel Almiron up for sale in the January transfer window, the Magpies are on the hunt for a replacement and have set their sights on relegation-battling Dibling as he continues to shine for the South Coast club.

Will Newcastle sign Tyler Dibling?

There is no doubt that building a squad for the long-term future at St James’ Park is at the forefront of the minds of everyone involved at the club as the chase for consistent success continues.

A return to Champions League football last season and a Carabao Cup final the season before has given Geordies a taste of what the potential and talent in their squad can produce when they put their minds to it.

However, the last 12 months have proved that if you’re not consistently adding talent and depth to the squad that progress can quickly stagnate, especially with the teams around Newcastle continuing to strengthen and refresh.

Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon are nailed on starters in the forward line, however, the right winger role continues to be one of the most weakest areas of the team with Jacob Murphy and Almiron battling it out for the spot.

Murphy has recently had a burst of fine form with Bruno Guimaraes being released in a more advanced midfield role alongside compatriot Joelinton, which has hugely boosted the quality of chances delivered to the forwards prompting a whopping 16 goals in their last five games.

It has been widely reported in recent weeks that MLS club Charlotte FC are interested in signing Almiron this month, which would put Newcastle in a good position to add funds to their tight transfer budget.

In terms of Dibling, the 18-year-old wonderkid has been a bright spark in the Premier League this season, despite Southampton’s plight at the bottom of the table, and with his experience on the right wing, as well as the ability to play in a ten role, he would be a great profile of player for Newcastle to set their sights on.

Over 18 Premier League appearances, the Englishman – hailed “very brave” by Match Of The Day pundit Danny Murphy – has scored two goals and created two big chances, as well as averaging one shot on goal, 1.1 tackles, 2.5 ball recoveries, 4.4 duels and 1.2 successful dribbles completed per game, as per SofaScore.

With that being said, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle pursue a move for Dibling in January and whether Saints would even welcome offers for the young player, as he would be instrumental in their efforts to retain their place in the Premier League next season.
