According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United are one of the clubs scouting Celtic right winger Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn.

The Magpies will be licking their wounds today as their outstanding unbeaten run came to an end in their Premier League clash with Bournemouth yesterday at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe’s side took a battering in front of their home support, as the Cherries delivered four blows with Justin Kluivert causing nothing but problems for the Newcastle midfield and defence to score a hattrick at his dad’s old stomping ground.

Indeed, Bruno Guimaraes did offer some hope when he headed home in the first half, but it was one of those days where their squad depth was bare in providing a real difference from the bench.

With Harvey Barnes injured and out until February, the Newcastle boss had few reliable options from the bench to improve the lethargic attacking threat, and this has been a cause for concern from supporters the entire campaign so far.

While Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak are nailed on starters in the attacking threat, the right winger position currently shared between Jacob Murphy and Miguel Almiron has often been under scrutiny for inconsistent and ineffective performances.

It was widely reported before the turn of the year that the right side of the attacking trio was the priority to improve in the January transfer window, yet no business has materialised on Tyneside so far.

The Chronicle is now reporting that Newcastle have been scouting Celtic star Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn as they continue their hunt for the perfect player to complete and improve their attacking threat.

It is further noted that the Scottish giants snapped up the services of the talented forward for just £3m but have set a price tag of £20m to part ways with the player moving forward.

Who is Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn?

With Almiron mooted for a move back to the MLS earlier this week, it would make sense for Newcastle to do what they can to replace him as soon as possible in the remaining weeks of the window.

Indeed, January is never an ideal time to do business for clubs and the Geordies might be tempted to wait until the summer to sanction any outgoings or incomings, but with a strong opportunity to not only qualify for European football ahead of next season and the chance to win a domestic trophy, they can’t get complacent.

Newcastle progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup after beating Bromley last week and put on an incredible display at the Emirates in their 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Over 18 SPL appearances this season so far, the 25-year-old – once hailed a “consistent performer” by manager Brendan Rodgers – has scored nine goals, registered six assists and created eight big chances, as well as averaging 2.2 shots on goal, two key passes and 2.1 successful dribbles per game, with his strengths noted in playmaking, high pressing and positioning on the right wing.

These statistics alone prove he would be an instant upgrade on Almiron, as the 30-year-old Paraguayan has only tallied up four league goal contributions since the beginning of the 2023/24 season, which is just not a good enough output for a club that wants to compete in all competitions.

With that being said, Kuhn is definitely one to watch for the St James’ Park faithful as he could be a huge threat for Newcastle on the right wing, but any offer for Kuhn will likely depend on the future of Almiron and whether they can convince Celtic to part ways.
