According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are edging closer to parting ways with Miguel Almiron, as international interest grows in the attacker this month.

The Magpies have not been active in the transfer market this January as of yet, though most Newcastle supporters will be distracted with the outstanding form the team have found themselves in, in recent weeks.

Eddie Howe has completely turned around the trajectory of the Tyneside giants’ season with five Premier Leagues in a row tallied up, progression into the next round of the FA Cup and taking an exhilarating lead in their two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final with a 2-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates.

Having said that, it will be important for Newcastle to not let their recent form cause complacency as there is still a long way to go in the campaign, with the January transfer window presenting an opportunity to keep things fresh in the squad.

It is by no means, the be-all and end-all to snap up the services of fresh talent in the winter window, but if they take the opportunity to add quality depth to their first team squad it would be massively advantageous in their pursuit of success.

It is no secret that financial restrictions have hindered the club’s ability to attack the transfer market with confidence, meaning they will need to commit to outgoing before they can think about bringing in new blood.

The Telegraph is reporting today that Newcastle could finally boost their transfer funds as interest in the signature of right-winger Miguel Almiron has been strong from a number of potential suitors.

The popular publication claims there is international interest in the Paraguayan with clubs from Brazil, Europe and the United States making contact with the club to enquire about Almiron’s availability and situation this month.

It is noted that Newcastle are looking for as much as £12m to part ways with the player, but it is understood that this is not a valuation clubs interested would be willing to pay for his services.

Should Newcastle sell Miguel Almiron?

There is no doubt that Almiron has become surplus to requirements at St James’ Park this season and his lethargic performance against Bromley at the weekend only reinforced the notion that his time is up on Tyneside.

Despite being given 84 minutes to make an impact on the FA Cup clash, the 30-year-old failed to register a single shot on target, lost possession of the ball ten times and failed to complete 100% of his crosses before he was hooked for Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Indeed, Almiron has had moments of magic that Newcastle supporters will never forget, with his complete transformation in front of goal during the early days of Howe’s tenure, but those confident and influential performances appear to be a thing of the past with his game time significantly reduced this season.

There is no concrete evidence to suggest that the sale of Almiron will prompt the Newcastle hierarchy to sign a right winger over the remaining weeks of the winter window.

However with Jacob Murphy, Anthony Gordon and even Joelinton capable of putting in a shift on the right flank, it won’t be a huge concern if a right winger isn’t signed until the summer.

With that being said, it would be a no-brainer for the Magpies to part way with Almiron this month if an opportunity arises, as it would provide the club with a much-needed financial boost to put towards future signings.
