According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United are tracking Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, but are joined by Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in their interest.

The Magpies are once again in a great position to qualify for Champions League football for next season, but with another quiet transfer window almost behind them, will they have enough to get over the line?

In the Premier League, Newcastle currently match Manchester City in fourth for points (41) and with the Sky Blues also qualifying for the Champions League knockouts last night, it further improves the chances of England’s fifth spot in the competition being confirmed.

The fifth spot in the top-flight table is, at this time, held by the North East giants but with 15 league games left to play, there is no room for bad form as the competition remains tight with only seven points separating Nottingham Forest in third and Aston Villa in eighth.

As a result, utilising the opportunity to strengthen in the remaining days of the transfer window would be massively advantageous for Newcastle, if they could acquire the right profile of player.

With Miguel Almiron poised for an exit, the right-winger role becomes an even bigger priority to strengthen for the club’s hierarchy, though there has been no concrete approach to replace the Paraguayan yet.

It is high likely that Newcastle will ride their luck in hope that injuries don’t come into play over the business end of their campaign, and instead use the summer window as their time to attack the transfer market.

TEAMtalk have reaffirmed the long-standing rumours that Newcastle are interested in signing Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo this summer, but have further noted that they won’t be alone in their pursuit of the talented forward.

The publication claims that league leaders Liverpool have taken a shine to Mbeumo and could make a move if Mohamed Salah does not renew his contract on Merseyside this summer, while Tottenham Hotspur are also named as potential competitors for Newcastle.

Should Newcastle sign Bryan Mbeumo?

There is no doubt that Mbeumo would be an incredible signing for the Magpies to finally complete the long-term future of their attacking threat, with Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak already nailed on in the starting eleven.

While Jacob Murphy has moments of magic and has been a consistent provider for Isak this season, it is important to have a balance of high quality prolific forwards that can not only provide for the striker but be relied upon to kill games themselves.

Over 23 Premier League appearances, Mbeumo – who has a reported £50m price tag – has scored 14 goals, registered three assists and created a whopping ten big chances, as well as averaging 1.9 key passes, 49.6 touches and 1.2 shots on target per game, displaying his attacking dominance for the Bees.

Only Mohamed Salah (19), Erling Haaland (18) and Newcastle’s star striker Isak (17) have scored more Premier League goals than the 25-year-old this season, and his diversity in positioning also makes him a unique catch.

Eddie Howe heavily relies on his Swedish superstar in almost every single game to deliver in the striker role, with Callum Wilson coming to the end of his contract and rarely available for selection due to various injury issues.

While predominantly performing in his right-winger role, Mbeumo also has a wealth of experience in playing the number nine role with 33 appearances and 13 goals scored leading the line, which would take an immense amount of pressure off Isak in games where he can be rested without a huge gap in quality behind him.

With that being said, it would be a no-brainer for Newcastle to sign Mbeumo if they can beat Liverpool and Spurs to secure his signature this summer, as he would be an incredible asset across the forward line.
