Newcastle United return to Premier League action this evening in their clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers and will be hoping to continue their incredible form.

The Magpies are in an enviable position as they welcome Vítor Pereira and his squad to Tyneside today and, now they have been handed an opportunity to take advantage of Chelsea’s draw last night.

The Blues drew with Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, which means that taking all three points from Wolves this evening would allow Newcastle to leapfrog the West Londoners and put them inside the top four.

Indeed, their Midlands visitors have everything to come and get a result for as they could distance themselves from the relegation zone with a win away from home tonight, so it won’t be an easy task with both teams chasing their respective targets.

In terms of injuries, Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles, Emil Krafth and Nick Pope remain unavailable for selection, while Harvey Barnes joins the growing injury list with a thigh strain that will see him sidelined until next month at the very least.

Joe Willock, Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy were all omitted from the FA Cup matchday squad against Bromley at the weekend, however, the Newcastle boss gave an update on the three players during his pre-match press conference yesterday.

Howe revealed:

“They were left out with genuine reasons, all different things, but nothing major, we hope. So, minor problems that we needed to settle down. Fingers crossed they’ll be there or thereabouts.”

Sven Botman has recently returned to the first-team squad after his ACL surgery recovery, but was also not involved in the third round FA Cup clash at St James’ Park, Howe had this to say about his absence:

“It is always a balance because after two big physical games, with Sven we needed to rest and recover. There were a few warning signs that he was going into fatigue. Then, of course, you need to get back up and running again because the schedule is unrelenting. We will try to make the right calls for them individually.”

All four players will be subjected to a late fitness test ahead of the Wolves game, but could all make a return after seven days of rest and recovery.

How could Newcastle line up against Wolves?

Nothing but Newcastle predicts that Eddie Howe will make eight changes to the starting eleven he led out against Bromley, maintaining his classic 4-3-3 formation.

We expect to see the Toon Army at full strength again this evening, with Martin Dubravka remaining in goal in front of a three-man change in the defensive set up.

Lewis Hall returns to the left-back role replacing Matt Targett, Sven Botman could also feature in the centre-back partnership with Fabian Schar and Tino Livramento returns to his rightful replacing Kieran Trippier on the right flank.

In midfield, we predict there will be two more changes with only powerhouse Joelinton retaining his starting position on the left side of the trio, while Sandro Tonali replaces teen sensation Lewis Miley and Brazilian dynamo Bruno Guimaraes returns in place of Sean Longstaff.

We expect Isak to make a return despite concerns around a mild hamstring injury in the centre-forward role, while Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy return in the wider positions to complete the attacking threat.
