According to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has not been approached for the vacant England role despite rumours in the media.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has been a breath of fresh air on Tyneside since his arrival back in November 2021, securing Champions League football and taking the Magpies to their first cup final in over two decades.

The former AFC Bournemouth boss was the successor to Steve Bruce and the project leader chosen by the new Saudi owners upon their takeover of the club almost three years ago.

From battling relegation to playing in the Champions League at the San Siro, Howe has been a revelation for long-suffering Geordies who endured nothing short of mediocrity at best under the 14-year ownership of Sports Direct mogul Mike Ashley.

The impressive Englishman’s guidance in the rags-to-riches story at St James’ Park has rightfully put him in the conversation as a popular candidate to succeed Gareth Southgate as England manager.

Numerous reports in the media have pinpointed Howe as the ideal target for the FA, and rumours of his appointment have further heightened since Southgate resigned from his position after the Euro 2024 campaign this summer.

However, a fresh update from Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett today will put the St James’ Park faithful’s concerns at rest, as it is claimed by the journalist that there has been no approach to poach Howe from the North East outfit.

Dorsett revealed:

“A really significant bit of news,”

“It’s been made clear to me that Jurgen Klopp, Graham Potter, Eddie Howe and Thomas Tuchel have had no contact at all from the FA in regard to that vacant England men’s senior manager position.

“That increases the likelihood that Lee Carsley, who is in interim charge at the moment, may well get the job longer term.”

“It’s been made pretty clear to me that there’s been no approach from the FA to Newcastle to ask for permission to speak to him [Howe].”

Will Eddie Howe remain at Newcastle United?

It is not only the England manager fiasco that has led to concern about Howe’s future on Tyneside, as a rumoured rift with new sporting director Paul Mitchell has been firmly reported in the media in recent weeks.

The Newcastle boss – who has an impressive 1.73 points average over 133 games at the club – is claimed to already have a fractured relationship with the man who replaced Dan Ashworth in July.

In a controversial interview, Mitchell claimed that the club’s recruitment strategy was “not fit for purpose” and that the club had overpaid for previous signings during Howe’s tenure.

“‘I think it’s difficult coming into a predefined strategy,” Mitchell said.

“Should our scouting and recruitment be driven more extensively with a wider reaching net? It definitely should, because this is becoming a really nuanced space now, when you can’t just capitally fund everything every year and buy loads of players at peak age and peak price.”

The 46-year-old manager is known to have played a huge part in the recruitment strategy at the club since his arrival, and this interview has fuelled rumours of potential friction between the pair.

Having said that, Howe has refused to address the situation and stands firm on an amicable environment at the club as he navigates reaching new heights and improving performances with his current squad.

With that being said, there is no reason, at this time, why Howe’s future should come under question and if he can reach a European qualification spot in the Premier League this season, it would be likely that the manager’s long-term future is secure.
