Links between James Maddison and Newcastle United refuse to go away, although Manchester City are now reportedly ready to enter the race.

What’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news?

According to the Northern Echo, City are prepared to make a move for Maddison this summer in an attempt to replace Bernardo Silva, who could leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.

That, of course, provides a worry for Newcastle. Maddison was a target last summer and is believed to remain high on their list of priorities. Indeed, the England international will have only a year left on his contract at Leicester when the transfer window reopens too, surely making him more attainable were he not to extend.

While Newcastle may join City in the Champions League next season, potentially going up against them in the transfer market is a daunting prospect. Even with Newcastle’s rapid-fire improvement in mind, even the most ardent supporter would surely admit that City could easily be seen as a more attractive destination right now, given the sheer amount of trophies they win.

Still, that situation could yet change should City receive punishment after being charged by the Premier League with breaking financial rules.

What has Guardiola said of Maddison?

Speaking in 2019, the City boss said (via The Mirror): “They’re [Leicester] so dangerous, Maddison is an incredible player.”

More recently, meanwhile, the pair were spotted deep in conversation back in October. Of that conversation, Maddison said (via talkSPORT): “He’s a top manager with a top team.”

Could Man City’s FFP problems impact their transfer plans?

According to the Evening Standard, City’s transfer plans risk being thrown into disarray as a result of their charges.

Indeed, the uncertainty surrounding the club before a verdict is reached could reportedly prove a stumbling block in an attempt to attract key players.
