Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has warned Newcastle ahead of the Carabao Cup final.

What’s the latest Newcastle United news?

A day after Newcastle booked their journey to Wembley for later this month, Manchester United set-up a mouth-watering final by sailing through against Nottingham Forest.

Not since 1999 have Newcastle played in a domestic cup final which, ironically, was against the Old Trafford giants in an FA Cup defeat. Still, this time feels different.

Indeed, not only are Manchester United not quite as daunting a prospect any more, but Newcastle are on the up. This feels like only the start of a journey, rather than the end of an era, as they team of ’99 arguably did.

Above Erik ten Hag’s side in the Premier League and unlucky not to win at Old Trafford earlier this season, this is a winnable final for Newcastle.

Still, Shaw has warned Eddie Howe’s team that Man United are in the business of winning trophies and that merely making Wembley is not enough.

What has been said about the Carabao Cup final?

Speaking after beating Forest, Shaw said (via BBC Sport): “It’s a final we can really look forward to but we have a few big games first before we go there.

“It’s extremely pleasing but there’s no point going to a final if we don’t win it. It’s where we want to be.

“We want to get this club back to where it should be which is winning trophies. Newcastle are an extremely good team but it’s a big moment for us in where we want to go.”

Who is favourite to win the Carabao Cup final?

On paper, you’d have to suggest Manchester United. They simply have more in the way of proven winners in the squad, with Casemiro and Raphael Varane in particular having won pretty much all there is to win.

Still, Newcastle are not playing against reputations. There was little to split the two teams earlier this season and Newcastle, so far, have only been beaten once since August.

While Man United might just edge it on paper, Newcastle have little to fear.
