Newcastle United are among the teams interested in a move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher on transfer window deadline day, sources have told Nothing but Newcastle.

What’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news?

The England international, also a target during the summer, is one of the players the club are considering to strengthen their options in midfield.

Jonjo Shelvey is set for a surprising move to Nottingham Forest, leaving Eddie Howe short in a position not exactly blessed with a huge amount of depth as things stand.

While Anthony Gordon’s move to St James’ Park should allow Joelinton to move back into the middle of the park, Shelvey’s exit leaves only the Brazilian, compatriot Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff as recognised central midfielders in the squad.

Gallagher would bring energy and drive to the engine room, though convincing him to leave Stamford Bridge might be difficult. It is understood the 22-year-old is not interested in a move to Everton and is keen to remain with his boyhood club, who could only be forced into a sale should they complete a big money move for Enzo Fernandez.

Would Chelsea sell to Newcastle?

Sources have told NBN that Chelsea have not actively put their academy graduate up for sale but would consider sanctioning his exit for a fee upwards of £30m.

Still, the Blues are understood to be way of strengthening a potential Champions League rival and were not keen to allow Hakim Ziyech to join Howe’s side despite interest.

The Morocco international now looks set to join Paris Saint-Germain on loan for the rest of the season instead.

What else could happen at Newcastle on deadline day?

Harrison Ashby – who NBN first revealed to be a January target back in December – has completed a move to St James’ Park.
