Eddie Howe has confirmed things are looking positive for Bruno Guimaraes.
The Brazilian left the field in tears after appearing to roll his ankle during Sunday’s win over Fulham, sparking fears he could miss the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
While the Newcastle boss was typically evasive in offering a return date, Howe confirmed a scan has not revealed any serious damage.
It seems almost certain the former Lyon star will miss the trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday, however. Elsewhere, Jonjo Shelvey and Emil Krafth are long-term absentees.
As a result, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff and Joelinton will almost certainly line up in a midfield three, with either Allan Saint-Maximin or Alexander Isak slotting into an attacking trident alongside Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron.
With the two Manchester clubs not in action until Sunday, three points at Selhurst Park would take Newcastle third in the Premier League and just a six points behind leaders Arsenal for a few hours and at least.
Newcastle predicted XI vs Crystal Palace (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Longstaff, Willock, Joelinton; Almiron, Wilson, Saint-Maximin
