Newcastle United are ready to sit down with Bruno Guimaraes and offer him a bumper new contract amid interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid, sources have told Nothing but Newcastle

What’s the latest Newcastle United news?

The poster boy of the club’s new era, Guimaraes has had a transformative impact on the team since arriving in January.

Hailed for his “football intelligence” by the likes of Roy Keane, Arsenal were keen on a move for the 24-year-old before his move to St James’ Park and his impact on Tyneside will surely have attracted even more attention.

The beating heart of Eddie Howe’s side, Guimaraes has frequently claimed he sees his long-term future at the club, vowing to become a legend.

Having signed a six-year deal upon his arrival for a reported £40m, Newcastle are clearly under little pressure. Still, with the club thought to have largely kept their wage structure in tact even despite the improved investment, it would be foolish to suggest players could not be tempted away if they are not significantly rewarded.

To that end, the club are ready to discuss a new deal with Guimaraes worth around £200k-per-week amid interest from both Stamford Bridge and the Santiago Bernabeu.

While both clubs are understood to be aware Newcastle will not be looking to sell the player, sources have told NBN that Madrid are eying a move and Chelsea could follow suit.

What has Howe said about Guimaraes future?

Last month, Howe stressed Newcastle’s desire to keep Guimaraes.

“We desperately want Bruno to be happy here, to enjoy his football and see a long term vision,” he said.

“We want to build a team. We’re in the very early stages of that so we don’t want to disrupt the group we have, we want to add quality – that’s the aim.”
