Brazil coach Tite has revealed Newcastle United asked Bruno Guimaraes to return to Tyneside amid his latest injury scare.

What’s the latest Newcastle United news?

Amid so many problems for Eddie Howe on the injury front, the news that Guimaraes was suffering with an injury during the international break would have been of huge concern.

Jonjo Shelvey, Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson and now Alexander Isak have gone down with problems this season, while Guimaraes missed a number of games himself with a hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old was kept on the bench for Brazil’s friendly win over Ghana in Le Harve and will play no part of their friendly with Tunisia on Tuesday, having returned to Newcastle for treatment.

What has Tite said of Guimaraes?

Speaking to Globo Esporte, the Brazil boss said: “Bruno Guimaraes was with us, he wanted to recover and play again, but the club asked him to return.

“He came to tell us that he was in a dilemma of staying, and he even came to tell us that he’d like us to decide. I looked at him and said: ‘No, this assignment is yours, as maturity and growth, what brings you to the national team is high performance with health, this will bring you to the national team’. How engaged you are, we know.”

Team news ahead of Fulham?

According to Luke Edwards, there is “confidence” Guimaraes will be able to feature for Saturday’s trip to Fulham, while Saint-Maximin remains “touch and go”.

Isak is believed to have suffered a lower leg injury that will likely rule him out for a number of weeks, although Wilson looks set to return.
