Alexander Isak has already revealed he would be keen to play in the Premier League.
What’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news?
According to The Daily Telegraph, the Real Sociedad forward is a major target for Newcastle United and the club have held talks with the La Liga outfit, although there is an acceptance that the transfer record on Tyneside will have to be broken.
That, in turn, could mean Newcastle sacrifice another potential signing and move only for the Swedish international, who the club are believed to have tracked for a number of years.
Would Isak be a good signing for Newcastle?
As one of La Liga’s leading forwards over the last few years, the 22-year-old would be a statement signing.
According to FBREF data, Isak ranks within the leading 70% of forwards playing across Europe’s major five leagues over the past year for non-penalty goals (0.39), shots (3), shot-creating actions (2.61), progressive carries (4.06) and dribbles complete (1.87) per game.
Able to operate across the frontline, Isak’s most prolific season came during the 2020/21 campaign, during which he scored 17 goals in 30 league starts. Last time out was more disappointing, with only 6 in 26, although hamstring and knee injuries did play a part.
At 22, the Sweden forward has his best years ahead of him and the idea of him working under Eddie Howe would be hugely exciting.
What has Isak said about a move to the Premier League?
Speaking to The Independent in November, Isak revealed a move to the Premier League would interest him.
“I am in a good place at the moment, I am very happy, but one day it would be nice to play in England as well,” he said.
“They have six or seven of the biggest clubs in the world, it is a very high level, and of course one day it would be an alternative. Every player wants to be the best version of themselves and reach the highest possible level.
“I have expectations for myself that I’m trying to fulfil, so we’ll see where the journey takes me in future.”
