Fabrizio Romano has revealed Jesse Lingard still intends to leave Manchester United this summer.

What’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news?

Despite rarely featuring for the club this season after a hugely impressive loan spell at West Ham United last time out, Lingard was denied an exit to Newcastle on deadline day.

Ralf Rangnick has called on the England international a touch more often in recent weeks, though he has still only started once in the Premier League all season.

Out of contract in the summer, Lingard reportedly intends to remain professional during his final months at his boyhood club but is still keen to leave.

What did Romano say about Lingard?

Taking to Twitter, Romano offered an update.

“Jesse Lingard’s expected to leave Manchester United as free agent in June,” he said.

“He’ll be respectful and professional until end of the season – but the plan has not changed.”

Should Newcastle go back in for Lingard?

Absolutely.

With only Chris Wood brought in over the course of the January transfer window, few would doubt Eddie Howe needs attacking reinforcement long-term. Callum Wilson, as prolific as he may be when fit, just cannot be relied upon to keep fit over the course of a season.

Lingard, although not a striker, proved he can carry the attacking burden while in east London last season, scoring 9 times in 16 games while clad in claret and blue.

Available on a free and experienced in the Premier League, relaunching the club’s interest in the summer seems like a no-brainer.

What has Amanda Staveley said about Lingard?

Speaking to The Athletic last week, Amanda Staveley revealed Lingard was keen to join Newcastle in January.

“Coming through all that showed us we can do it, that we can stick to our plan and if we get criticised on the last day for ‘oh, you’re going after Jesse (Lingard)’, well, Jesse wanted to come to us,” she said.

“We did everything. We never stopped. From the start to the finish, we did not stop working.”
