Newcastle United slapped a £60m price tag on Allan Saint-Maximin over the course of last summer and still do not intend to sell him, according to iNews

What’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news?

While fans will need little reminding about just how popular the Frenchman is, the last few weeks have been difficult for the winger.

Clearly, his recent injury will likely have played a part in his relatively poor form, culminating in an ineffective cameo away at Everton on Thursday night. Amongst some sections of the support online, the 25-year-old was criticised, leading to Saint-Maximin posting a cryptic message on Instagram.

To suggest anyone was calling for him to be sold would of course be a huge exaggeration, though it’s certainly interesting to hear how the PIF-version of Newcastle United view the player. Indeed, the report says Saint-Maximin remains a “central part” of Eddie Howe’s team and a “huge favourite” of the ownership.

Where was Saint-Maximin linked?

Over the course of the summer, Roma were touted as a potential destination not long after Saint-Maximin himself admitted he was looking for Newcastle to show more ambition.

The report credits teams in both England and Italy with having made “tentative enquiries” last summer while suggesting Arsenal might have moved had former owner Mike Ashley not valued the former Nice forward so highly.

Since, Saint-Maximin has signed a new deal running until 2026 on wages believed to be in the region of £72k-per-week.

What has Saint-Maximin said about his recent form?

Taking to Instagram after the loss at Goodison Park, Saint-Maximin wrote: “People forget quickly, but I know what to do to restore their memory.”
