Newcastle United midfielder Ryan Fraser has revealed the message Eddie Howe sent his players prior to Saturday’s win over Brentford.

What’s the latest Newcastle United news?

A divisive figure under Steve Bruce, Fraser has gone from strength-to-strength since Howe was appointed as the first manager of the PIF era in November.

The 28-year-old has started nine of the last ten games, emerging as one of the key players of the club’s impressive turnaround in form and produced an assist for Joelinton during Saturday’s huge game.

Speaking after the win, Fraser revealed the message Howe had sent his players. Indeed, the head coach looks to have created a wonderful team spirit, hunting down those above them to put further daylight between Newcastle and the relegation zone.

The gap might only be four points but that’s now six teams who sit below them in the table.

What did Howe say to his players?

Fraser’s post-match interview was posted on the club’s official website.

“The gaffer had a meeting before the game at the hotel and his quote was ‘Do you want to be hunted or be the hunter?’.

“We would jump three places today if we won and that little bit of motivation before we came to the ground was important. Now, we need to keep being the hunter and get up as far as we can.

“Although we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves, we can still finish quite high up in the table.”

How well did Fraser play against Brentford?

According to WhoScored data, the Scotland international played a game-high seven key passes during the win, as well as producing a joint-third high number of two tackles.

Making a difference in both an attacking and a defensive sense, Fraser was also handed a 10/10 in The Chronicle‘s match ratings.
