Adam Webster could miss Brighton’s trip to Newcastle United next week, according to Graham Potter.

What’s the latest Newcastle United news?

Right now, things could not be going much better for Newcastle.

Yes, injury concerns regarding the likes of Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and – to a lesser extent – Allan Saint-Maximin are most unwelcome but Eddie Howe’s team are flying at the moment. Unbeaten in seven games, they’ve put daylight between them and the relegation zone and approach the Brighton game full of confidence.

The two 3-0 losses to Potter’s side last season marked some of the lowest moments of the Steve Bruce era, beaten comprehensively both at home and on the road. Now, with Brighton not exactly in brilliant form themselves, the home fixture looks more winnable.

What’s the latest on Webster?

Speaking after his team’s loss to Aston Villa on Saturday, Potter revealed Webster was “unlikely” to face Newcastle.

“Adam Webster has had a little bit of a setback with his injury so we will see how he goes this week,” he said (via The Argus).

“It’s looking unlikely for Newcastle.”

How big a blow will that be for Brighton?

Webster’s absence will likely only increase Newcastle’s confidence.

Indeed, Brighton have conceded five goals in the two recent games he’s missed after Dan Burn’s transfer to Newcastle had already weakened their defensive options.

According to WhoScored data, Webster ranks within the top five Brighton players for successful aerial duels, interceptions and clearances per game, underlining his importance to their cause.

Clearly, Brighton are a good a team and have impressed under Potter’s watch but few would doubt Webster’s likely absence will weaken them.
