Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe believes the Premier League relegation battle will go down to the wire.

What’s the latest Newcastle United news?

The recent run of good form since the start of February has undoubtedly given Newcastle a platform from which to build. Over the last six games, Newcastle’s unbeaten run has them sitting third in the Premier League form table and there are still key players to make an impact.

Indeed, Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson could still play this season while Bruno Guimaraes is yet to get much of a look-in, potentially giving Howe a very strong team towards the end of the campaign.

Still, only a fool would completely write off Newcastle’s relegation chances. Burnley are in ominous form themselves while Roy Hodgson, although yet to have much of an impact at Watford, is an expert at crafting great escapes.

A loss at Brentford on Saturday would threaten to undo much of the good work and give Thomas Frank’s side some crucial breathing space.

What has Howe said about the relegation battle?

Speaking ahead of the trip to West London, Howe gave his view.

“No team down the bottom will give up – it’s going to go right to the end of the season,” he said.

“We have to take care of our own business and that’s consistently winning games or getting points to try and elevate ourselves from danger.”

Who else could be dragged in?

Based on the last six games, Brentford are bottom of the form table while Everton, Watford and Leeds sit close to the relegation zone.

Clearly, seasons are not played out in such a small window but it does speak to the fact that Newcastle’s relegation rivals are losing form at a crucial part of the campaign.

A win away on Saturday would certainly make things interesting for Frank Lampard, Marcelo Bielsa and Frank in particular.
