Journalist Dean Jones has provided a fresh transfer update for Newcastle United supporters.
What’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news?
Despite the club’s perilous Premier League position and frankly awful form this season, this month looks to be perhaps the most exciting one many Newcastle supporters of a younger generation have ever experienced.
Now, that might be more of a reflection on modern football and the insatiable nature of the transfer window, but few can doubt (with concerns about the origin of the backing in mind) that it is wonderful to see the management team being given funds to greatly improve a side to have rotted away in recent years.
Naturally, many names have been linked with a move as the PIF ownership look to salvage the season.
What did Dean Jones say about Newcastle’s transfer plans?
Speaking on the latest episode of the Touchline Talk Podcast, Jones explained (1:16): “I’ll be completely honest with you, there are at least ten other players that Newcastle are pursuing right now.
“They don’t really know which of those are going to progress as the month goes on.”
Is this the right way to go about things?
Obviously, in an ideal world clubs would draw up a smaller shortlist of targets and form a much more structured plan over the course of a few months to really make sure they’re getting their investments right. Indeed, that’s something we often see at the clubs this ownership would like to challenge in the future, such as Liverpool and Manchester City.
Still, Newcastle don’t have time. They have only a few weeks of a famously difficult January window, so having so many names to turn to rather than potentially waste time on targets who would not want to come and fight relegation seems the right way things to go about things.
