Gabriel Barbosa’s representatives are keen on a move to Newcastle United this month, sources have told Nothing But Newcastle.

What’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news?

While the true extent of the injury to Callum Wilson is yet to be revealed, the club are thought to be readying a move for a new striker in an effort to beat the drop. Indeed, should the England international miss an extend period of time, Eddie Howe’s task is made so much harder given Wilson has been the only reliable source of goals since his arrival in 2020.

To that end, plenty of names have naturally been linked following the PIF takeover including the likes of Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ben Brereton Diaz of Blackburn Rovers.

What’s the latest on Gabriel Barbosa?

Sources close to NBN have revealed that the Brazilian international’s agents have been approached in regard to a potential move to St James’ Park this month and are open to hearing any such proposal at this stage.

Currently with Brazilian giants Flamengo, the 25-year-old has also been linked with a move to West Ham United.

Who is Gabriel Barbosa and what is his style of play?

Nicknamed ‘Gabigol’, the forward started his career with Santos before a big move to Inter Milan in 2016, though that didn’t work out and he left the Serie A club after only nine league appearances in four years.

Having rebuilt his career with Flamengo after making a permanent move following an initial loan spell in 2020, he finished as the top scorer in the Brazilian top flight for two consecutive years while winning the Copa Libertadores.

In the summer of 2021, The World Football Index described Barbosa as “fairly versatile which is a huge positive for any player. Someone who can play as a lone striker or play out wide, but no matter where he plays he will always provide a threat to the opposition.

“First of all, his finishing, if you give him a chance, he will most likely score being able to remain calm under pressure, allowing him to pick how he is going to beat the goalkeeper when presented with an opportunity.”
