Newcastle United’s nightmare week could well continue against Manchester City on Sunday.

As things stand, the game is supposed to go ahead despite the fact rising Covid cases are wreaking havoc across the Premier League and beyond. Already this weekend, we’ve seen games called off at late notice.

Still, preparation goes ahead. While Thursday’s performance at Liverpool was more encouraging than the one away at Leicester last weekend, Eddie Howe faces an almighty task to match a Manchester City side in rampant form.

Earlier this week, they put seven past Leeds United, scoring at least twice in their last six Premier League outings. Up against what is statistically the worst defence in the Premier League, Newcastle look set for a long afternoon.

Indeed, both Jamal Lewis and Allan Saint-Maximin are doubts for the home side too. They could join Paul Dummett and Federico Fernandez in missing the game, while City do not have any fresh injury concerns.

Newcastle United predicted XI: Dubravka, Manquillo, Schar, Lascelles, Ritchie, Willock, Shelvey, Fraser, Almiron, Joelinton, Wilson

Injured: Paul Dummett (calf), Federico Fernandez (thigh)

Doubts: Jamal Lewis (hamstring), Allan Saint-Maximin (muscle injury)

TV channel: Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Premier League, Sky Sports Ultra HD

Official: Martin Atkinson
