Predicted XI: Newcastle United vs Burnley

Newcastle United face another six-pointer against Burnley on Saturday at 3pm.

Having failed to beat Norwich, it seems incredibly unlikely that Eddie Howe will be able to turn such a dire situation around should his team not pick up their first three points of the campaign against a relegation rival.

A win, however, could see them close the gap to just three points hours before Watford, who would be the team closest to them, play title-chasing Manchester City at Vicarage Road.

While there was huge disappointment on Tuesday evening against Norwich, there were also signs of encouragement. Ciaran Clark’s early red card made life difficult but the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Federico Fernandez, Jamal Lewis and Joelinton all looked reasonably impressive.

Frankly, it’s looking like a case of now or never for Newcastle. The crowd appeared to be largely behind Howe’s team in midweek but a loss against a Burnley side who have rarely impressed themselves this season would surely sour the mood, particularly with some tough fixtures coming up before the January transfer window even opens.

Newcastle United predicted XI: Dubravka, Murphy, Schar, Fernandez, Lascelles, Lewis, Shelvey, Willock, Saint-Maximin, Wilson, Joelinton

Injured: Paul Dummett
