Newcastle United are busy looking at potential signings from abroad, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon

What’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news?

While there have been suggestions the club will find it difficult to conduct business with Premier League teams in January amid the ill-feeling towards the Saudi Arabian takeover, Nothing But Newcastle have previously been told there is a hope that the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic could force their hands.

Still, that doesn’t necessarily mean they will find the right kind of deals, particularly if they do have to overpay. To that end, they are reportedly actively looking in other markets in an effort to strengthen their team and potentially beat the drop.

What did Alan Nixon say about Newcastle’s transfer plans?

Conducting a Q&A on Twitter, Nixon was asked as to why the club wouldn’t look to sign James Tarkowski from Burnley (who NBN understand to prefer a move to West Ham).

“Going to be hard to sign Prem players,” he said.

“Hear very busy abroad.”

What are Newcastle United looking for in January?

Earlier this month, Football Insider claimed Eddie Howe was eager to bring in at least two central defenders, as well as a central midfielder.

Not only would that make sense because of the chronic lack of investment in those two areas over the past few years but also because, frankly, the defence is what will send Newcastle down this season if things don’t improve.

Even Norwich City – a team many had written off before the appointment of Dean Smith – have conceded fewer times than Newcastle so far and, with Howe’s side having conceded five times in his first two games, he seems unable to find any solutions internally.

Wherever they come from, upgrades must be bought as soon as possible.

Interestingly, Kieran Trippier of Atletico Madrid was linked by The Daily Mirror and may offer a happy medium. An improvement on what Howe currently has, he’s proven in the Premier League and would obviously come from a Spanish team, thereby navigating around the issue somewhat.
