Elliot Anderson has delivered his verdict on scoring a hat-trick for the U23 team during Monday night’s 3-1 over Nottingham Forst in Premier League 2.

What’s the latest Newcastle United news?

Anderson, who was recently called up to Scotland’s U21 national side, has only played two games for the senior side but is extremely highly rated behind the scenes.

Indeed, speaking to Nothing But Newcastle back in January, former Toon defender Steve Howey backed him to stay at the club for a “very long time” and urged him not to end up like either Ivan Toney or Adam Armstrong, who were sold at a young age before going on to carve a successful career elsewhere.

Former manager Steve Bruce was believed to have called him into first-team training sessions, such was the level of his impact on staff on Tyneside.

What did Anderson do against Nottingham Forest?

The 19-year-old scored a fourth-minute penalty before adding a brace after the interval to take his tally up to seven in all competitions across the campaign.

Talking to the club’s official website after the game, Anderson said: “I haven’t played in three or four weeks and to score a hat-trick to get my goal tally up is quite important to me.

“In the short-term, I’m trying to impress the manager as much as I can, show what I’ve got and see if he notices.

“I thought we started the game really well and the intensity was high. They got a man sent off within the first ten minutes but we played like we have been in training. I think to come down here and pass them off the park has been a successful day for us.”
