What’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news?
With the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund controversially purchasing an 80% stake in the club, Newcastle’s fortunes (at least off the pitch) have pretty much changed overnight.
While, clearly, it’s going to take some time to revamp a squad who are currently lying second from bottom in the Premier League into a side that can seriously challenge even domestically, the report suggests that the new owners are looking to create an English spine.
The likes of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Declan Rice are all touted as potential targets. Obviously, just because the takeover has gone through does not mean Newcastle can instantly attract that kind of player, though the wages on offer could be amongst the highest in Europe.
After so long under Mike Ashley, that alone is a source of huge excitement.
Who are Newcastle’s current highest earners?
According to SpotRac data, Joelinton is the club’s highest earner, picking up in the region of £86k-per-week.
For context, Kane is believed to earn around £200k over the same period, which does give some sort of indication as to the kind of player Newcastle could realistically target with an increased wage budget. Again, money isn’t everything and the project behind the scenes will need to be convincing, but there would appear to be some promising times ahead.
What has Amanda Staveley said about Newcastle’s transfer policy?
“We’re in the market to compete for world-class players but we need the right infrastructure,” she said.
“They must have the right training ground, the right medical facilities.”
