Newcastle United have received at least some good news ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Manchester United.

What’s the latest Newcastle United team news?

With Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser ruled out for what looks like an incredibly daunting game against a free-scoring United ready to welcome Cristiano Ronaldo back to the Premier League, the omens do not look good for Steve Bruce’s side.

Still, Miguel Almiron has been cleared to play this weekend even despite the fallout from the international break. Indeed, at one point, it seemed as if the Paraguayan FA would invoke a five-day ban after the club failed to release the 27-year-old for the latest round of World Cup qualifiers.

According to the Shields Gazette, however, he is able to play.

How big a boost is this for Newcastle?

Considering the bleak situation, it’s clearly better to have Almiron available.

At his best, the former Atalanta forward has proven to be a force on the counter-attack. Perhaps we don’t see that often enough but, along with Allan Saint-Maximin, Almiron’s pace and ability to progress the ball could be helpful in a game where Bruce’s side are likely to have relatively little in the way of possession.

Clearly, it’s far from an ideal situation but, given the wider context of the campaign so far, it’s better than nothing.

What has Steve Bruce said about Almiron?

Speaking ahead of the game, Bruce talked of his delight.

“What I can say on behalf of Miggy is that he’s available,” he said.

“We’ve had confirmation of that. We’re obviously pleased. I think there’s still live debates going on as we speak, but, as far as we’re concerned, we’re quite happy with Miggy being available.”
