Former Newcastle great Malcolm Macdonald has suggested a number of players will be angry about how the club’s summer played out, while speaking on the latest episode of the NUFC Matters Podcast

What’s the latest Newcastle transfer news?

Clearly, it was a painful summer for supporters.

While the signing of Joe Willock and the breaking of the club’s payment structure to get him was certainly promising, Bruce was unable to welcome any new faces to the squad that finished last strongly. As good as his team were in the run-in, the lack of firepower outside of Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson, as well as the tiring options in defence and midfield, is a major concern.

Sources close to the situation have told Nothing But Newcastle that owner refused to release any extra funds despite talks over potential moves for the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Hamza Choudhury of and City respectively.

What did Malcolm Macdonald say?

Talking on the most recent episode of the podcast, the 71-year-old suggested there would be some frustration within the camp.

“I would imagine that Willock, beyond all the other players, will be quite angry that there wasn’t further strengthening beyond him,” he said.

“And I think we saw last Saturday that it’s going to be a very long season, let’s put it that way. Things aren’t right, that’s for sure.”

If indeed that is the case, it’s hard to blame Willock or any other player for feeling frustrated. Under Ashley’s ownership, Newcastle are going nowhere.
