What’s the latest Newcastle United news?

A bad start to the season for Steve Bruce’s side threatens to get worse.

Indeed, with Callum Wilson already a doubt for the trip to Manchester United on Saturday and the team having only picked up one point in three Premier League games, the sight of Fraser clad in a protective boot while walking on crutches is extremely worrying.

Without the two former Bournemouth players, Bruce is left relying on solely Allan Saint-Maximin and turning to the likes of Dwight Gayle and Joelinton.

How big a miss would Fraser be?

While it would be fair to say the 27-year-old is yet to wholly convince since joining in 2020, he has looked relatively impressive this season, albeit his averages are skewed by a lack of minutes.

Still, according to FBREF data, the Scottish international – who was forced to withdraw from Steve Clarke’s squad – leads the way for Bruce in terms of goal-creating actions per 90 minutes (3.1). Clinging to that might be somewhat hopeful considering Fraser hasn’t yet started in the league this season but, if Wilson is indeed out, then Bruce isn’t exactly blessed with attacking options.

A proven Premier League creator with the kind of pace to trouble the opposition, not having Fraser available would be a major blow.

What has been said about Ryan Fraser’s time at Newcastle?

Speaking to Football Insider in March, pundit Gabby Agbonlahor claimed the former Aberdeen youngster owed Bruce for bringing him to the club in the first place.

Fraser owes Steve Bruce. He’s brought him in on a free  and given him great money,” he said.

“He’ll be looking at those players to step up.”
