Pundit Kevin Campbell has bemoaned Steve Bruce’s luck on the injury front while speaking to Football Insider

What’s the latest Newcastle United injury news?

With Callum Wilson already a doubt for Saturday’s daunting trip down to a Manchester United side set to welcome back Cristiano Ronaldo, images from talkSPORT emerged showing Ryan Fraser leaving Scotland duty walking on crutches while clad in a protective boot.

Indeed, this follows a campaign last time out that saw the likes of Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles, Martin Dubravka, Fabian Schar and Allan Saint-Maximin ruled out for long periods with either injuries or COVID problems.

What did Kevin Campbell say?

Talking to Football Insider, the former Everton and Arsenal striker talked of the problems for Bruce.

“It’s not great,” he said.

“A lot of the time you wear a boot and crutches are a precaution. But it doesn’t look great for the weekend until we really find out what’s happened.

“I’m sure he’ll have had it scanned to see the extent of the damage, but it didn’t look good.

“Steve Bruce must be thinking he’s walked under a ladder or run over a black cat or something. He has got no luck at the moment. It’s horrendous.”

Do Newcastle have anybody to blame?

Absolutely not.

Injuries, while unfortunate, are simply part of the game and Wilson in particular has a dodgy record.

On Deadline Day, Nothing But Newcastle were told that Mike Ashley was simply refusing to release any extra funds for loan players despite Bruce already working with a squad light on attacking options, as well as suffering in defence and midfield from a chronic lack of investment over the years.

The problem with doing just enough to get by is that when an unforeseen circumstance arises, it throws all of those plans out of the window. While Newcastle might boast an exciting attacking line on paper, last season proved that they are more than capable of going on long losing streaks without their best players.

Not able to win so far this time around even with them in the team, the complexion of this campaign already looks incredibly bleak.
