Newcastle United are confident the Saudi Arabian takeover will be sanctioned in July, according to Football Insider

What’s the latest Newcastle takeover news?

The report suggests that all parties remain committed to the deal and there is a ‘growing hope’ it will finally be sanctioned by the Premier League after arbitration proceedings in July.

Talks are understood to have continued behind the scenes despite the takeover seemingly breaking down. Indeed, this isn’t the first time the publication have claimed there is a confidence the Mike Ashley era will soon end having also broken news back in April.

How badly do Newcastle need to be taken over?

While there are valid questions over the idea of being bought by such potential investors, to say Newcastle need to be taken over would be an understatement to say the least.

Ashley is deeply unpopular anyway but recent reports have suggested manager Steve Bruce will have a very limited transfer budget to work with this summer. Although the 60-year-old managed to keep his side in the Premier League in the season just gone, not being able to improve this team doesn’t exactly fill you with confidence ahead of next term, particularly if both Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin continue to struggle with injuries.

What has Ashley said about the Newcastle takeover?

Speaking in May after the HMRC ended a long-running investigation into the club’s affairs, the Sports Direct mogul hit out at the ‘dark forces’ preventing Newcastle from hitting the next level.

“After four years of the club being subjected to this investigation, I am pleased that the criminal investigation has now been discontinued,” Ashley told Sky Sports (via The Athletic).

“It is now time for the dark forces that are preventing this football club from becoming the powerhouse that the fans deserve, to step aside.”
