Newcastle manager Bruce has poured cold water over the suggestion he could walk away from the club this summer.

What’s the latest Newcastle news?

Earlier this week, The Daily Telegraph revealed Bruce was far from guaranteed to still be in charge next season with people close to him urging him to walk away from St. James’ Park, given he’s hugely unpopular amongst swathes of the club’s support. Indeed, after a miserable season, Bruce was said to be concerned that he wouldn’t have much money to spend and the extent of his summer budget could play a huge role in deciding whether or not he stays.

How long does Bruce have left on his Newcastle contract?

As it stands, the 60-year-old still has a year to run on his deal and talk of a new contract did emerge last month.

Has anyone been linked to Newcastle?

Yes.

Back in March, Nothing But Newcastle were told that former Sheffield manager Chris Wilder was keen on the role amid huge pressure on Bruce following the dismal loss away at Brighton, though owner Mike Ashley was reluctant to cave in.

Elsewhere, the likes of Gennaro Gattuso and Sean Dyche have also been linked.

What did Bruce say about his future?

Talking ahead of tomorrow’s game at home to newly-crowned Premier League champions Manchester City, Bruce stressed he was already planning for next season in charge.

“I hope so,” he replied when asked if he’d be in charge next year (via Sky Sports’ Keith Downie on Twitter).

“I’m nowhere near ready to retire yet. We’re already talking about pre-season & discussing targets.

“What makes this club great is its fans.

“They come in their thousands and want the club to do well. And basically, so do I. If the think that I meant their expectations are too high then that’s not what I meant at all. That’s my limited vocabulary.”
