Eurosport journalist Dean Jones has featured on the latest episode of Touchline Talk and has offered a tentative link between Burnley boss Sean Dyche and Newcastle.

What’s the story?

As pressure continues to mount on Newcastle boss Steve Bruce following a crunching 3-0 defeat against fellow relegation-threatened rivals Brighton, Jones was discussing with journalist Peter O’Rourke over the prospect of who could replace the Tyneside tactician.

The Burnley boss was one name touted by Jones who could be suitable long-term replacement:

He said:

“You look at the options, though, of where they might go after this. I think Sean Dyche would be interested in it if it opened up. I think that this might be a time when Dyche is starting to look for a possible new path.

“I’m not saying he would definitely leave Burnley, but I think a project like that he would potentially be interested in, and Chris Wilder is obviously available now, and I think he would have his name in there as well with a shout.

“So those are the kind of places I think you’ll be looking. Are they going to excite Newcastle fans? I don’t know. But Sean Dyche might be a good fit for a club like Newcastle if that’s the kind of path they want to go down.”

The Verdict

Unless Mike Ashley flashed a transfer war chest at Dyche, it is hard to see the long-serving steady hand of Dyche jumping ship.

With a recent takeover at the club and Premier League status looking increasingly assured, the 49-year-old could start to see steady changes at Burnley that will offer him new flexibility and power at the club.

Those factors could entrench his position.
