Newcastle loanee Joe Willock has given something for fans to cheer about after the on-loan Arsenal man issued some positive indications over his future.

What’s the story?

Willock joined Steve Bruce’s side on deadline day in the January transfer window in search of regular Premier League minutes and soon found himself settling quickly into the team.

He even scored on his debut in a vital 3-2 win over Southampton, helping to buoy the Magpies clear of the drop zone in the process.

He is one of many creative assets available to Steve Bruce, but the Newcastle tactician may quickly find himself relying on the youngster as injuries to primary creative forces mount.

However, speaking on his time at Newcastle [via The Shields Gazette], Willock hinted he may well be looking to extend his stay at Newcastle.

“I love playing for Newcastle,” said Willock. “When I first came here, I was a bit apprehensive of how I would take to it, because I’d never left Arsenal.

“I’d been at Arsenal since I was four and a half, so coming to a new club, coming up north to Newcastle, was a bit scary. But as I came here and settled in, and saw the love from the fans that I’m receiving, of course I’d love to continue playing here.”

The Verdict

It is not clear if Willock would seek a loan extension or something more permanent.

Arsenal possess first-team regulars in the likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe and Martin Odegaard who played a role in making a loan move make sense for all parties.

In that view, Arsenal are well-stocked for creative midfielders – and that could see Willock’s wish granted.
