According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce will keep in contact with Jetro Willems upon his return to parent club Eintracht Frankfurt following his season-ending injury ahead of a potential move to bring him back in the summer.

As per the report, the Magpies boss told reporters ahead of tonight’s clash with Everton that there was a ‘chance’ the Dutchman – who proved an important figure prior to his problem – could come back in the summer, months after German outlet Kicker (via the Tyneside-based outlet) reported the Toon Army had agreed a £10m deal to make the loan move permanent, with a clause in the loan arrangement.

What does this mean for Newcastle?

It’s positive, given his contribution this season.

His two goals this season came against Liverpool and Manchester City this season, suggesting he can be a palpable goal threat when pushing forward, while his 1.9 interceptions (via WhoScored) per game show how important he was when defending his own goal, given it was the third-highest in the whole squad.

Indeed, only four players made more key passes per game than him too (0.8) and his 2 assists speak to a player of great importance when releasing the Toon on the counter, as he did against Manchester United when he set-up Matty Longstaff’s dramatic winner.

So, the idea of him coming back providing he can get over his injury and provide further balance to a position not particularly well-stocked in the summer has to be seen as a positive.
