Jarrod Bowen: Newcastle United line up January transfer bid amid private encouragement

According to the Daily Telegraph, Newcastle United are preparing to make a January move for Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen. Having struggled to score goals this season despite signing Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin over the course of the summer, the Magpies are reportedly ready to test the Tigers’ resolve.

So far this season, Bowen has bagged 16 goals alone after an impressive haul of 22 last time and the report claims that the Toon Army have privately been encouraged that the Championship outfit might be willing to sell, though did previously baulk at their £20m valuation in the summer.

Still, Mike Ashley is believed to have assured his man – who worked with Bowen on Humberside – that he backs his judgement ahead of a potential bid during what remains left of the January transfer window.

Is this good news for Newcastle?

Definitely, though there is always the risk that a player to have never tested himself in the Premier League will take time to adjust. However, England’s top division is littered with young players to have proven themselves of late, with the likes of James Maddison, Mason Mount and Max Aarons impressing after reasonably making quick adjustments, so it’s potentially worth taking.

As per WhoScored, Bowen is averaging more shots per game than anyone in the Toon squad as thing stands (3.5 prior to today’s games), further suggesting he’s a threat in the final third. Granted, he is in a lower league, but does possess an attacking prowess beyond what the club’s current options offer at the moment.
