Hours after the Guardian suggested Newcastle United were ready to move for Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen, Sky Sports claimed Premier League rivals Crystal Palace had been in talks over a £16m fee with the Tigers ahead of a potential late swoop.
The 23-year-old has scored 16 times this season and has been linked with the Toon Army for much of this month, so losing out on a target to a side in and around the Magpies in the Premier League must be viewed as a blow. Indeed, his average of 3.5 shots per game outmatch any player in the Toon squad, so it’s clear he does have an attacking impetus that’d be welcome on Tyneside, even if he doesn’t quite match his goalscoring output when making the step up.
Still, with Palace thought to have moved for the player, plenty of Newcastle fans have vented their frustration on social media. With that in mind, here’s a look at some of it as deadline day looms.
Jarrod Bowen in talks with Crystal Palace. Feel like we’ve missed out on a good player if he goes there #NUFC

Going to be sickening watching Bowen become Maddison at another club other the next few years while remembering our local journalists telling us Ashley&Bruce deserve a pat on the back for spending £0 this January.#NUFC#FailedTransferWindow#NotSignedAGoalscorer#Spent£0
