As the proverbial rumour mill starts to churn during the first month of the year, Newcastle United were recently linked (as per the Guardian) with what would have been a surprise move for Brighton striker, Glenn Murray.
Indeed, given the Magpies’ lack of firepower this season – with Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton combining for just three Premier League goals – a shock move to lure the veteran to the North East was mooted.
While not the most exciting name to be linked with a move to St. James’ Park given the rumours suggesting World Cup winner Olivier Giroud was a target, Murray does boast a reasonably good record in the Premier League. Over the course of his career, he’s notched 36 times at this level for the likes of Crystal Palace, the Seagulls and Bournemouth.
Still, Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder did provide an update on the story yesterday. To the relief of many Toon fans online it seems, Ryder poured cold water over the idea an approach was made.
Newcastle have not made any approach for Glenn Murray. #nufc

With that in mind, here’s a closer look at some of the reaction.
Really hope your right as it’s all over the internet saying we have made approach.
